Why Flare exists
Flare imports shoes direct from factory partners in Vietnam 🇻🇳 and sells them across Zambia between K400 and K800 a pair. By buying in container loads and skipping the importer and the mall, we keep the price of a decent pair at roughly a third of what the same shoe costs on a Zambian high street.
The problem
A good pair costs too much here
A shoe that leaves a factory at a few dollars can reach a Lusaka shelf at K1,500. It passes through an exporter, an importer, a wholesaler and a retailer, and every one of them adds a margin. None of that markup makes the shoe better. It just makes it further out of reach.
The people who feel that hardest are the ones who need footwear most: students walking to college, traders on their feet all day, parents kitting out three children before a school term.
What we do instead
One link in the chain
We deal with the factory directly and consolidate orders into full shipments. That is the whole trick. One margin instead of four, and the saving goes into the price rather than into a shopfront.
